EVENTO TRASCORSO

Encounters with history: At the origins of the Malatesta family

Comune di Pennabilli

On Thursday 11 July at 9.30 p.m., Tonino Guerra's 'Orto dei frutti dimenticati' (Orchard of Forgotten Fruits) in Pennabilli (RN) will host the initiative 'Alle origini dei Malatesta' (At the Origins of the Malatesta Family), organised by the Società di Studi Storici per il Montefeltro di San Leo on the occasion of the 'FuoriMostra' (Outside the Exhibition) event.

The programme includes two lectures.
The first will focus on the origins of the Malatesta family, a project by Andrea Antonioli and Morvan Bruschi carried out by the Olim Flaminia Study Centre of Cesena, joined by eight municipalities in the Cesenate and Riminese areas, the same municipalities that played a decisive role in the Malatesta origins that have always been shrouded in a thick fog of uncertainty.
The meticulous study methodology reconstructed the identity of the earliest, lesser-known members of the family. A very demanding work that, thanks to lengthy reflections and interesting historical insights, has made it possible to calibrate the first genealogy of the lineage, largely reconstructed and rewritten in harmony with the most ancient sources, taking into account an evocative element that is usually overlooked, namely the information relating to quite a few female figures who had something to do with the Malatesta family, such as Berta Traversari degli Onesti and her daughter Matilde, Drudicia, Adelasia and Maria, Countess of Sogliano.

The second lecture will focus on an unpublished character of the Renaissance, the most cultured and fascinating of the Malatesta lineage: Ramberto Malatesta, Count of Sogliano, philosopher, astrologer and alchemist, on whom Antonioli has written a very elegant book, winner of numerous literary prizes, produced an in-progress exhibition inaugurated at the Biblioteca Malatestiana di Cesena in 2014 and a short film with numerous conferences.

Events may be subject to change, always contact organizers before going to the venue.
